NMCA Street Radial  News

Racing on a 275 Drag Radial

Jay Canella  got his second number one qualifier of the year. The car was running consistant 1.33 60ft times this weekend  hanging the tires high in qualifing.
The Canella father and son team where getting it done this weekend with a record breaking 8.68 pass but a burnt piston ended there weekend in the first round.
Tim Hendricks made the haul to Memphis but a torched engine in the 2nd round of qualifing had him swapping engines for first round.
Scotty Carter made the short drive from his home in Michigan to the Milan drag strip. Carter has been having MSD wiring and nitrous system wiring problems that have cost him rounds. Carter makes the power and has shown it with a 8.77@155
CRE Performance has got his fix and Carters LS1 power should be laying down some good numbers in Memphis in seven weeks when Scott and all the other racers show up for the NMCA world finals.
Heath Shemwell had some engine problems after a wheelstand last month that he didn't know about till this past weekend at the Z-Max. Seems the car came down kind of hard and smashed the oil pan into the oil pick up. Heath didn't know about the damage untill this passed weekend when he blasted down the track on a good run to end it with a nasty knocking noise at the end of the pass.  Even though Heath was out of the Street Radial race that didn't stop him or his father  Danny Shemwell from cleaning house in Nostalgia Pro Street by being the number 1 qualifier and winning the event.
NMCA BFG Street Radial Class Champion John Macaluso races Heath Shemwell in Pennsyvania for the Bradenton Florida Event make up. Macaluso would get the easy win over Shemwells tire blistering spin off the starting line. Macaluso would sail to a 8.75@156 for the victory over Shemwell.
ProCharger power is back!!!!!!  Brad Schehr's NMCA BFG Street Radial car is the First supercharged car in the 8's making it the fastest supercharger car in the history of the class. CRE Performance was called in to do some chassis and engine tuning on the car and with consistant 1.34 60' times along with other tuning on the car Schehr has made a pass as fast as 8.74@153. The 2008 ET record for the class is a 8.74@156 set by John Macaluso at the NMCA Finals last year.

Brad Schehr Wins the NMCA world finals
BFG Street Radial racer Brad Schehr took down the class Champion in a Monday morning brawl. Schehr and Caminita also had a $20.00 side bet on the reaction time results. Caminita lost $20.00 from the King Schehr holeshot.
Brad Schehr runs a ProCharger D1 on a CRE Performance built 308 SBF. It has been said that this is the fastest car on the planet with a D1 ProCharger.  The car weighs in at 3350 and has ran a best of 8.74@157.49

Sealing the deal!
The 2009 Championship is just around the corner.

John Macaluso has done it again!!! Macaluso has won the NMCA Milan Michigain event and has put a Championship lock down on the 2009 BFGoodrich StreetRadial Championship race. Macaluso Qualified #1 this past weekend and with consistant 8.80 passes won the event. It will be seven weeks before the final NMCA event of the year. Macaluso will be testing as much as he can in this time. Macaluso has aways had good luck and ET's at the Memphis Tenn. event. Macaluso and team CRE Performance think that this year the car will run mid 8.60's at over 157MPH. Only time will tell.
Jay Canella had some traction problems during the test pass and both qualifing passes but found the problem before first round. In the first round Canella put  Carters LS1 powered Mustang on the trailer and then Tim Hendricks. Canella's 8.80 weekend charge was stopped by class Champion John Macaluso with a holeshot in the final round.
Team CRE makes it to the finals with two cars in Pensylvania. Heres a shot of team mates John Macaluso and  Brad Schehr. The Fastest Nitrous car vs the Fastest SuperCharged car in the class.
Jason Hoots gets the win over Macaluso in the Final round at the Z-Max.  After Macaluso dead hooked and was out about 50ft the tires went up in smoke. Johnny Mac did some quick foot work to stop the tire spin but it still was not enought to catch Jason Hoots before the 1320. Macaluso is in the points race for the Championship with  290 point head start. Macaluso also set the Et record at the Zmax event making it a 8.84@155
A new transmission, no testing and a number one qualifing spot for Macaluso at the Z-Max event this past weekend. With a slew of 1.32-1.35  60 foot times Macaluso was showing the class how to get it done. The poor track contions made it hard for others to get down the track. The Green Machine will get some testing done before the Michigan race in 2 weeks.  A win at Michigan will lock up the Championship for Macaluso for the 2009 year.
Brad Schehr go's for the knock out punch at the NMCA/NMRA SuperBowl Event.  With 8.80 passes and great reaction times Brad Schehr takes out the competition and takes home the Gold.
Macaluso's Green Machine had a hard time keeping the front end down at the NMCA/NMRA SuperBowl Event. After the first test pass at the event the C4 transmission was having problems with the trans brake not holding. Team CRE had the transmission changed out in 2hrs and was ready to make another test pass. The car ran a blistering  1.29 60ft time and layed down a 5.57@125 in the 1/8. During the qualifing passes though the car was having wheeling problems that resulted in Macaluso qualifing 4th. This would be the first time in ten races that Macaluso wouldn't be the number one qualifier.
John Macaluso's 90' Mustang LX on its way to a 8.73@156.67

In 2007 John Macaluso had Chet Caminita from CRE Performance turn his car in to a NMCA Car Craft Street Race Heads-Up car. In only two years John Macaluso and CRE Performance have became the most feared racers in this NMCA class. In the 2008 season Macaluso was the number one qualifier seven times in a row with five Event wins and two runner ups. John Macaluso ended his 2008 season as the NMCA CarCraft Street Race Champion.

Heath Shemwell and TRZ Motorsports have got the traction problem figured out. Heath stood his Nelson Racing engine powered F-Body on its tail in the first round.
CRE Performance had Scotty Carters nitrous system problems fixed and the car was running consistant 8.80's but lost to class Champion Macaluso in the first round.

Tim Hendricks qualified #2 in NMCA Street Radial with a 9.01@155 . The Hendricks crew had the killer tune in the FireBird for first round and took out Heath Shemwell with another clean pass.
Heath Shemwell was in Michigan and at work putting his motor in the car that was just repaired in time for the race. I guess green was faster then black as the F-Bodys of Hendricks and Shemwell blasted down the track with Hendricks getting the win light.
The track conditions did not work for Jay Canella this past weekend, but the Chevy power was putting up some good MPH with 155 being his best all weekend. Canella is by far the fastest Chevy powerd car in the class. Macaluso and Canella lined up in the semi finals where both racers deep staged and both racers cut identical .111 reaction times. Macaluso's 1.35  60 foot  time was a large part of the win in the semi finals.
Brad Schehr made the long haul from south Florida to Pennsylvania and it paided off.  In the first round of testing on Saturday the ProCharger car ran a blistering 8.74@140. In the fist round or qualifing Brad ran a 8.81@130  this ET would put him at the top of qualifing.  After the second round of qualifing was complete Schehr would be number two qualifer. In the first round Schehr would race Heath Shemwell  where Schehr would take the win running a 8.79@151. In the final round Brad Schehr would line up to race class Champion John Macaluso. Schehr got a small advantage with the holeshot  .030 to a .050 and this reaction time was enough to hold off class Champion John Macaluso for the .0042 margin of victory.  Brad Schehrs 8.80@153 wins over Macalusos 8.78@156.
Scotty Carter leaves the 9's behind and runs a personal best of 8.77@155 off the trailer at the NMCA/NMRA SuperBowl event. Carter qualifies #2 and makes it to the finals. Carters Mustang is powered by a AFR headed Chevy LS1.
